Reading Articles On Your Phone Without The Ads
For quite a long time, I’ve been bothered by the ads that appear on my Android phone when I’m trying to read a news article. There haven’t been any effective ways to block ads until I discovered uBlock Origin for my mobile phone. With uBlock Origin installed in my browser, the most annoying ads are blocked.
I’ve been using Firefox with the uBlock Origin extension. on my Android phone to read articles without all of the ads getting in the way. On the iPhone, use the official uBlock Origin Lite extension in Safari.
On Android phones: Install the Firefox browser and the uBlock Origin extension.
Open the Play Store, locate and download the Firefox app, then install it. After installing Firefox, open it and install the uBlock Origin extension. uBlock Origin is the tool that actually blocks ads.
- Install the Firefox browser on Android, open the Google Play Store, search for “Firefox,” and select “Firefox Fast & Private Browser” by Mozilla. Tap “Install” and wait for the download to finish. Once installed, tap “Open” to launch the browser and customize your settings.
- Install uBlock Origin on Firefox for Android by opening the menu (three dots), selecting “Add-ons,” and tapping the “+” button next to uBlock Origin
- Open Firefox on your Android device.
- Tap the menu button (three dots in the corner).
- Select Add-ons.
- Find uBlock Origin in the list and tap the + button.
- Follow the prompts to grant permissions, and tap Add.
Firefox for iOS does not support extensions because Apple requires all browsers to use the WebKit engine. Fortunately, you can install the uBlock Origin Lite extension in Safaribrowser on your iPhone.
Install uBlock Origin Lite from the App Store, then enable it in Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions. Ensure “All Websites” is set to “Allow” to enable full ad-blocking functionality. It requires iOS 18.5 or later.
For Your Desktop Browsers, install the uBlock Origin Lite Extension For Chrome or Edge
Install uBlock Origin Lite (uBOL) from the Chrome Web Store to block ads on Chrome and Edge, as it is designed for Manifest V3 restrictions. Click “Add to Chrome” or “Get” in the extension store, then click “Add extension” to activate it. It is recommended to pin it to the toolbar for easier access.
Steps for Chrome & Edge Desktop Browsers:
- Open the Store: Navigate to the Chrome Web Store.
- Search: Type “uBlock Origin Lite” in the search bar.
- Install: Select the official “uBlock Origin Lite” (by Gorhill) and click Add to Chrome (or Get in Edge).
- Confirm by clicking Add extension in the pop-up prompt.
- Configure: Click the puzzle piece (Extensions) icon, pin uBlock Origin Lite, and click the extension icon to set the filtering level (Basic, Optimal, or Complete).
