Wind Cave Natural Entrance: This small hole marks the site of
the original cave opening discovered by Tom Bingham in 1881. A whistling
sound and waving grasses and bushes nearby attracted his attention as
he passed by.
Changing atmospheric pressure outside the cave causes the air inside
the cave to adjust. When pressure outside the cave rises, the air outside
enters the cave through any openings: when the pressure outside the
cave falls, air leaves the cave. Cave air adjusting to the outside pressure
causes the wind for which the cave was named
